Very nice Paul! Let’s hear the story!
Cold, wet day catching mini bass on a Jerk Bait. Had 7 or 8, all under 2 lbs. One about 5" long. I was going to fish to the end of a certain point and call it a day. About 30 feet from my quitting place I threw my Lucky Craft Pointer 65 into some shallow stick-ups. I jerked it twice and on the pause my line straightened out and it felt solid! I have often been mistaken on my initial estimate of the size of a fish. This one left no doubt as she came completely out of the water like a torpedo. I gasped and silently prayed "Lord let me land this one"! I have a long list of "big fish that got away" stories. 8 pound braid and tiny trebles had me worried! Three strong runs against my spinning reel drag had me holding my breath. She ran out of the sticks and into open, deeper water! Yessss! this might happen! Finally she just gave up and glided into my almost-too-small net. Rear treble had one hook bent half way out!
Not my over-all PB but my best from the Lake of D&K!

It’s uncanny how you hardly ever hear “ Things went exactly according to plan” when talking about landing the big ones! My two largest bass both come with some harrowing moments much like yours. Hang ups on structure, jumps that make your heart skip a beat, hooks hanging on by a thread. That excitement and those memories are what fishing is all about.
Side note. I use a lot of single hooks on my cranks and jerkbaits. Heavier gauge. For me there isn’t a noticeable decrease in hook up ratio. Thanks for the write up.

LOL! Well not right behind! He had been there a few hours before. That particular point gets fished often.
Remember that 7 at Barrett that our buddy caught? The one with the faulty scale?
