Soupfin(?) at TL

The usual suspects at TL this morning (buts and spotties) when this was caught. I wish I could say it was on a fly, but it was on a dead drifted anchovy. Small soupfin? Sorry for the poor quality photo, the sun was behind me.

Size, eye shape (soupfin have a slightly larger eye), and mouth (smouthhound have sandpaper like teeth, soupfin have sharp teeth). If you catch a small shark like that in the bay chances are it is a smoothhound

That fits, I was very wary of teeth removing the hook and was surprised to hardly see any. Good call.

That's a pretty decent smoothhound. There are two species; Gray and brown. The browns have sort of a coppery color that aren't like other sharks. And I think the grays' dorsal fin is more transparent.
