Lower Owens Winter Fly Fishing Trip

Euro nymphed the Lower Owens River last weekend which was super fun and rewarding. I went with the local Golden State Fly Casters club here in town and caught nearly 20 trout each day! I have a 10 ft 3 weight shadow X euro rod which helps me tight line nymph and feel every bite. I only used typical euro flies that I tied with mostly 3.5 mm tungsten beads for my lead fly and 2.8 to 2.4 mm trailer flies. The flies were variations of perdigons and thread frenchies which both rainbow and brown trout loved! I’m not an expert in this type of fly fishing technique because I only get to go once or twice a year but I think I’m starting to figure it out!

from the sounds of it you got it figured out! Was it pretty empty out there?

Nice work! A few above average ones in there for that area. Above or below 5 bridges?

Mcquade,

It was medium busy, could get a spot to park somewhere on chalk bluff both days. The weather was pretty nice, t-shirt weather a few days.

Risentide,

Yeah above five bridges… caught some nice fish just above the chalk blufff with the road side cross… caught most of the bigger fish up towards the dam. The fishing sucked bad just below the campground which was weird.
