San V 2/26 Way better than I expected.

After the fish were hammered with 110 teams in the Anglers Marine tournament on Saturday, my expectations were set pretty low. The morning started out about how I thought it would. There were only about 6 boats when I launched but one of them ended up on the spot I wanted to start on. No biggie, moved to another area a couple hundred yards away. I was going to move to that spot when the other boat left but two other boats ended up getting on that spot. Wasn’t getting any love where I was at so I decided to run to the back of Kimball (which I haven’t fished yet this year) and picked up 3 pretty quickly but that was it.

Decided to head back to my starting area and work deeper but I saw no one was on the spot I had wanted to start on so I figured what the hell? Headed on back to that spot and managed two more fish to give me about a 9lb limit. Honestly better than I expected. The fish came out of a small channel that is about 5-7ft deeper than the rest of the immediate area. I kept working my dropshot along that channel when on one cast I went to start shaking my bait and all I felt was slack. I kept very slowly taking up slack thinking it was a fish but before I got the slack out, my line was almost directly under my boat. Set the hook and the fish instantly took drag and got into a bush but, surprisingly, came right back out. I knew it was a better fish but with the algae bloom I couldn’t see it……until it came up and jumped about 5ft from the boat. After another 30 or so very tense seconds I put the net under a beautiful 7.62. Biggest I have ever gotten at San V and the biggest in several years overall. I was at least the 4th boat to fish that spot so I guess Lady Luck was smiling on me today. Believe it or not it bit a 3” chocolate Fluttercraft. Who said big fish won’t eat little baits? 🤣

Fishing was steady the rest of the day and I ended up with 18 fish total. The best 5 weighed 16.95. What started out as a very slow day, ended up as one of the best days I have had recently!

Added a picture of the water color with the algae bloom

Nice job as always Moose. That 7lb plus bass sure must of been fun to catch and sure brought out a big smile.
Thanks for sharing and darn good angling after that huge tournament. Tight lines always. :-)

Very nice! Good to see there's still at least one seven in the V. I'm a big believer in small baits catching big fish..an easy meal! I know Vinny is gonna want to fight me over that comment!

We can't fight over what you think and what I think...... and actually a few of my biggest bass were
caught on smaller baits.....besides you might break your hip. :-)

Beastly fish! So square!
Years back I caught a 7-2 on a li'l Brownie at lake Ramona.

She was definitely a thick healthy fish. So cool to just watch her slowly swim away when I released her!

:ugeek: My biggest bass at San V was also around that size and it ate a 3” worm! Maybe we’re onto something here
