Personal best between snowy weather fronts

So it snowed a lot around Christmas and new years. I caught my first fishies of the year on the 5th, in a quick session at Antelope Draw in Utah. I caught 4 rainbows of no significant size....but fish are fish, especially in the dead of winter. Most of Flaming Gorge is quickly icing over in Wyoming now that we are in the thick of winter. The southern end is a lot deeper and Utah has managed to get a bit milder weather, so I have to drive 60-70 miles to find open water. Last Saturday, a friend and I took a drive around the Gorge (about a 140 mile loop) checking out a couple of new areas, having lunch at a mountain diner, and making a late stop back at Antelope. for about twenty minutes....nada, and then....boom! I was pulling my personal best lake trout (so far!) to the shoreline....several times, I might add. I'd get her near and she'd run back out. But finally she pooped out. She measured 29 inches and weighed an estimated 9 pounds. The best part is that there are more like her that are even bigger....but they are probably out in the middle of the lake right now. Very glad that I had one of those plastic fish vise grips, as these fish have big needle sharp teeth when they start reaching this size.

The southwest corner of Wyoming has a lot of seriously butt ugly desert terrain. I think I am spoiled from living in California for most of my life. As you head south from where I live, and head into Utah, there is a lot of gorgeous mountain scenery to be enjoyed. And there are mountainous areas in Wyoming that I haven't explored yet.

Here is Green River, just below the Flaming Gorge dam.

The Green River below Flaming Gorge is a National Treasure. Some of the best Trout fishing in the Nation. Truly unbelievable in the Spring, all the tributaries are full of spawning Trout. The main river is full of Rainbow and Brown. I had monster Browns following up my smaller Trout many times. I just wish that it wasn’t a 14 hour drive.
