South San Diego Bay Dec 11 - still great angling

Post by Tailingloop »

Fished South San Diego Bay again this morning. Launched about 0630 and first cast around 0645. High tide around 0715

We both caught fish on the first cast and quickly caught several more. Five or Six long drifts today. One of those only produced a couple of fish each but the others were pretty steady and often wide open with periods of fish on five or six casts in a row. Other than that one drift that didn't produce much, rarely went more than 3 casts without a grab. Flies worked equally as well as plastics. I only used a fly today. Hot fly today for me was a size 2 red/yellow flashtail clouser deep minnow. Tom's was an orange and brown thing. Not counting, but based on catch rate well over 2 dozen fish each and likely over 3 dozen. Good grade of spotties today with a bunch of 11-12 inch fish, a few legal keeper size, and a bunch of 9-10 inch fish. Only a handful of dinks. Lots of evidence that the bass were feeding on bay anchovies or other small bait.
