Looking for new places to fish around Lake Elsinore
Hello, new to the forum here. I like to fish a lot and spend a bunch on fishing stuff but like I tell my friends don't let that fool you I'm really bad at fishing.
I live near Lake Elsinore and I usually head out fishing once a week for a few hours or so if I can. Mostly I go to Lake Skinner and sometimes Elsinore but I'm trying to find some new spots to fish especially for when I can convince people to come with me.
I've been to most of the big lakes once or twice but not enough to figure out good spots. I'm supposed to go with one of my nephews Friday so I'm trying to find somewhere different. Don't want to take him to the same place to not catch anything again
What are some good spots I should try

Elsinore is an easy place to catch fish, one pole with dough bait for carp the other with night crawlers for wipers. Skinner and DVL are difficult from shore for everyone, unless they plant trout which should be in a few weeks. Your San Bernardino regional park lakes like Yucaipa don't stock trout till next week. Close by you also have Murrieta Pond and Haverston Lake in Temecula. You can always drive across the Ortega Hwy and fish the Dana Point Jetty

I can definitely catch fish in Elsinore if I use some kind of bait and I know there are really big fish in there but the problem is any time I tell someone I'm going to fish Elsinore they look at me like I'm diseased.
It sounds strange but I've never actually fished in the ocean even though I grew up out here. I just kind of don't know where to start.
Let's assume I'm a total idiot and need super basic instruction. If I wanted to fish the Dana point jetty do I just like put it in Google find a parking lot and just walk anywhere toward the water and fish? Or is there a specific spot and parking lot that I go to?
Second do I really do anything different for the ocean? Like same tackle and everything? Should I bring heavier stuff? How through do I need to be about rinsing and cleaning after?
Can I fish at any time of day?
Sorry for all the questions

In the Dana Point Harbor the little jetty is on Puerto Place dr, dollar an hour to park. Carolina rig or drop shot, use shrimp, squid or lugworms, which you can buy at Hogan's Tackle across the street. If your using freshwater gear you are going to need to clean your reels really good afterwards.

Thanks that seems like enough info I feel at least comfortable enough to give it a try. It's really not that far. I can just use the tackle shop for my point on the GPS.
I have a couple reels that are good for salt water but not sure about the rods.
Should I try to show up pretty much at dawn or before?

I also am a fresh water only guy and know near zero re: salt water fishing.
I do believe when you're from the surf or a jetty, you fish with the tide changes.
I'm sure someone here can inform you of tide influences and target times.
Here's a link if it is of any use.

I'll have to do some reading on the tides. I mean worst case I just don't catch anything which happens half the time anyway.
After all that my nephew just wants to go to skinner though. That's fine I have a decent spot but it's all little fish. I'm going to try a couple different things though.
I'm going to have to hit Dana point by myself then, probably next week if the weather is good. I just want to rip that band-aid off and give it a try.
My other goal here is to find a creek or river to fish. I'm going to order a new BFS rod ( either a graywolf bfs rod or the finetail glass) soon and I think it would be cool to try it out at a creek.
