TP Halibut 11/5/23

I was up early because of the time change. I checked the cams on Surfline and Torrey Pines looked very inviting. I fished the south of the side lagoon entrance around Tower 4. I read the beach and found a channel that was leading out from the shore. Around the channel there was a nice drop off and sand bowl surrounded by small rocks. I started throwing my LC 110 Cherry Bomb. Within five minutes I had my first fish pictured here at 21 inches. I subsequently caught three more, all under 22" in the same spot within 20 minutes. I was fishing a medium Ugly Stick (7'4"), a Shimano 2500 with 10 pound mono and an 18 inch 12 lb fluro leader.

I'd like to thank my new fishing friend Matt for taking this awesome picture. He was hooking into surf perch not far away from where I was casting. We chatted about species, the shoreline, an upcoming surf perch contest and of course our gear. Thank you Matt.

Nice fishing... I think that when the fish get to the legal limit, they get smarter  ... At least that is my excuse, for the many hundreds of -22'ers that I catch ;) ...... Anyway, very nice outing...

Great session, thanks for posting! Similar to other posters, I was extremely unlucky regarding Halibut bite this year

You are not alone. The last time I hooked into a halibut was March or April right after the first grunion run.
