Hodges Crappie Hunt October 22

Went on Sunday to Lake Hodges with the Hobie looking for some crappie. Got there late after breakfast, like 7:15 am and picked up a nice one on my second cast. Water was off-color coffee with 1' of visibility on top, and the deepest channel straight west of the ramp is about 10' deep now out by the buoys.
So after looking around a bit I ventured over toward the dam and unfortunately found nothing to target over in the deeper water on that side. Big schools of shad were absolutely everywhere. Hooked a couple smaller bass on the jig that somehow got off.
Chased around a bunch of bigger panfish mid-day / mid-channel, but those were big bluegill and I'd left my nightcrawlers at home! They would nip the crappie jig and I was too lazy to downsize to a power worm rig. Released the couple of crappie I caught, not really enough fish to get the fillet board dirty.
Same lesson always learned, get there at 6 am and leave by 10 am unless you want to fish bluegill! (Which I may, next weekend!)
