Anyone been to Dixon recently? I was thinking of renting a boat and maybe getting some crawdads to use on Monday. Bass, catfish, and crappie are all good to me.

Maybe a handful of crappie in the whole lake. I’ve only known of one confirmed several years back.

And it should be getting close to the time that the trout stocks are added into the mix.

Go there the day after a big trout stock, you should have the whole lake to yourself

I used to fish Dixon a lot and it was a good lake for 3-5 bass in a 2-3 hour session. I'd go early morning and walk the shore. But in the last few years there hasn't been a lot of activity at least what I have seen. Earlier this year I had a few times where dropshot worked ok. No topwater at all, and some on crankbait. Once the trout plants start, that lake is well attended.

CKRZ,
As an Escondido resident, Lake Dixon has been my "home lake" for over 2-decades.
I am strictly a bass fisherman from shore and can only speak to this species.
I fish Dixon no less than once per week.
If you fish Dixon for bass, it's hard to beat a drop-shotted finesses worm rigged weedless Texas style (Aaron's Magic RoboWorm color) or a wacky rigged 4.5" pumpkin colored Senko.
I only have the opportunity to fish at the sundown period and am limited to about 1.5-2 hours of fishing each time as the park recently set closing time at 6:30.
The photos are (2) from 13-Oct and (1) from 19-Oct. All in about 15-25 feet of water with scattered grass on the bottom using the drop shot.
In my opinion Lake Dixon is a bass factory year round.

CKRZ,
One last comment in addition to my earlier reply.
My personal Lake Dixon rule of thumb is "never on a weekend."
Way too many people.
