Rain tactic

Post by falafeluver »

With the possibility of some rain this coming Saturday, what are some options on type of baits to try? Spinnerbait, Whopper, Pop-R, flukes and bring all your stuff and try them all but what might work best?

Hi,

The rain should be light, if it happens. If it's light, I have had good success with a noisy topwater. Pretty much wherever in the water column you are, make more noise. If it's heavy rain, I go a little below the surface (1-4 feet down) and still make a lot of noise. If it doesn't rain, but is overcast, I use a black popper, crazy crawler or jitterbug so the profile is clear from below. A lot of people say bright colors, and I'm pretty sure that works for them. I'd also decide based on the water temp, lately it has been cooler than it would normally, so fast moving baits might not react the same.

I'm starting tomorrow with a black popper and my favorite #7 Rapala floating. Maybe a x-70 megabass too for just a little more depth.
