It's so weird how things can change within just a few days. I fished Friday (4/10), Tues, Thursday, and today (Fri), same location, same hole at Blacks, roughly the same tide, too. What also interesting is that yesterday and today, the numbers of SFC were less, but the corbina are now showing up and I'm seeing groups of 4-6 roaming the flats. Weird.
Very cool, thanks for sharing! Maybe some of those SFC found an even better hole. I'm curious to try fishing some fly patterns with spinning gear. Can I use a Carolina rig with 24 inch leader to a fly to get the requisite distance(?), which isn't very far, based on the SFC I've seen at LJ Shores.
Absolutely! I'm using sandworm and sand crab patterns tied on hooks size 8 to 12. The size 12s are still much bigger than the micro crabs I'm seeing. You can Carolina rig it or split shot. You only have to cast 10 to 20 ft if you are properly tracking them coming in with the waves and feeding on the beds, so I wouldn't use anything more than 1/8 of an ounce. I was fishing with a friend yesterday and he was using spinning gear, casting way out into the trough and then he was seeing the SFC swim under his line, close enough for him to hit with his rod tip.
Are you using polarized sunglasses when you fish? It's my most important gear.

The most frustrating part of this whole thing is that I was waiting at home for the tide to go out. Just goes to show you, you should spend as much time on the water as you can.

I was at Torrey Pines yesterday looking for fish in the shallow water. Saw a osprey dive into the water about a hundred yards south of me. It took a while for it to come back up but when it did it had a big fish.
Just to add some data to my personal observations, SIO has recently published record-breaking ocean temperatures believed NOT to be caused by El Nino, but "persistent high pressure systems [which are] weakening winds and reducing upwelling, trapping heat along the coast."

Yeah, I pretty much fish when I have a window, regardless of condition. I've been at this for about a year now and I'm finally starting to recognize patterns where things aren't ideal, so if I'm on the fence about fishing for whatever reason, conditions are the final decider. Only reason I might skip it altogether might be because of exceptionally high or low tides.
I fish when I can too. But not the weekends if I can help it. I like low tide sometimes . Lot of shoreline plus you can find some cool stuff. Found a few sand dollars last time I was out in low tide
