I bought a bag of the Yamatanuki (Yamamoto) and threw it a few times. It tears up easily. Reminds me of a Fat Ika which is much more durable. And I have caught fish on paddle tail and curly tail baits after the tail was bitten off. And Fat Ikas continue to work after most of the tenacles are bitten off.
There's a saying (and book) that "Fish Have No Hands". It means the only way a fish can investigate something is to take it into his mouth. So if a fish sees something he is not sure of, he will often inhale it. If it is a hard bait, it generally gets spit out right away (unless he gets hooked 1st). A nice big soft bait like this is going to feel a lot more like food. So called "pressure bites" are just a fish's way of mouthing a bait to see if it is food or not.
https://www.amazon.com/Mike-Gardners-Fi ... 096493311X . Out of print since Mike died (RIP, great fisherman).
Of course, the Ned TRD bait looks like poop too, just from a smaller beast. Finesse poop.
Years ago, Berkley (Pure Fishing) did experiments on bait shapes. They concluded that a featureless bait (like the TRD) was the most effective but did not bring it to market because they didn't think fishermen would buy it.

Fish don't think like we do. Not even close.

Glad I could help you in your quest to become a better angler. Patience my friend, you'll get there. Rome wasn't built in a day. : )
You are really an expert or you think you are but afraid to admit it spoon (I hope you don’t mind I call you your old name).
Often time, if someone post about catching fish on a lure (whatever lure on earth), you always come up with explanation of how that lure catch fish, how it would work or even better backup with your story of successfully catching even more fish.
I’m not like you by any aspect but thanks, I’m so flattered. I’m humble and let ppl enjoy their story of successfully catching their dream fish, big or small. I would applaud them instead of coming up with if you do this you would success just like me. I wouldn’t jump on other ppl posts about my lures of choice or my success story to make me look better than anyone else. I catch fish almost every catch in one hour long but I’m not gonna put that into other ppl face. I lost count after 5-6 fish but you seem to remember every fish.
BTW my none expert theory (watching how lure would move) of lure action on surface and 20-30 yards out with different type of line and diameter are so much different. I don’t know but I use my imagination of lure move if I just lift slowly, pop it quick, drag and feel the bottom or long pull just swim above the rocks/structer.
I’m still wondering when you gonna come up with even more success story over my PB post???
Rome wasn’t built in one day, but seem like you are the one who built the whole Rome.

So with all the attention the Ned rig gets today, it is fascinating that something very similar to it was used 30 years ago. I have a book
https://www.amazon.com/Roland-Martins-1 ... 1602392072 where Roland Martin goes on and on about how great the plain old spade tail grub on a ball head jig is, perfect for catching fish on structure and all kinds of other species. Although spade tail jigs were very effective, they did not appeal to fishermen and are hard to find today.
https://bass-archives.com/the-3-inch-grub/ Roland Martin is one of the all time great bass fishermen, if you forgive him for shilling for the Helicopter Lure.
For a lure to catch fish, it 1st has to catch a fisherman.

I don't fit the definition of an expert, but more a researcher always looking for answers to an infinite list of questions. But man do I love the feeling of being able to say H*** YES! when my guess was the right one.
I don’t think so, you are not looking for answer but instead answer everyone with your so so success story . You are right one thing about being able to say hell yes to everyone face no matter they want to hear/read your opinion or not.

All told, the spoonminnow caught over 20 fish that day that included yellow and white perch, bass, crappie and more sunfish.
There we go again an expert with extraordinary lure that always catch fish. Hey can you send me a 100 of those I want to catch fish like you.
Another post of mine that you jump in with all your success and your phenomenon creation. I guess it must be hard for an expert to compliment other without showing off themselves.

Fishing is about information and the sharing of it. NO BRAG JUST FACTS!
I AM AS ORIGINAL POSTER, Have I asked your opinion? Do you really think with all my success on store bought lures, I really need your information? When you jumped in other ppl post with your information and they don’t ask you it look like BRAG not fact.
FACT
Do you or other fish like me? Maybe a few but definitely not you. I only fish at night with and with out bobbers, believe me I catch more than 20 with in 2-3 hours, while other fish the same area probably catch 50% less than me.
Facts are I know the actual spot, I invest in my gear to be able to catch 50’ accuracy with in 1-2’ from the area. I adjust my depth accordingly where fish swim in and out, I can jigging over the rock on bottom without fear of snag. Of course I lost jig all the time but that what I do to catch them more than others. Have you ever tried to cast 40-50’ in 10-15 mph wind? I guess not because you have convenience parking your boat on top. Last night here in SoCal get pretty windy (ppl that live here can vouch for me) and I manage to catch probably 20.
Why I don’t share this info? I would if anyone ask but if they don’t why bother? They might just want to show off or brag what they catch with all forum friends.
I hate when ppl post their PB instead of congratulating them, you come up with other pic of hey look I catch bigger or I catch more, that is BRAGGING.
BTW have you visit my post of 2.8lb yet? Look what CAMO or other good forum members did. It call good fellow when someone did good, we congrat them if they need help we help them, not try to steal the thunder just like you. FACT.
For your convenience, I know you spend all this time researching and don’t have time to look at others, I included the link just for ya. Now go and try to be a nice forum member, would you? Just a few words of “nice” or “ congrat” wouldn’t kill you, that is a fact.

BTW I also have just some picture to show store bought lure can work very effective if you know LOCATION and MOVEMENT, doesn’t really have to be magical “spoonminnow”
As you can see, normal stuffs,eh. If I focus on bluegill then I just shorten my crappie lure (damage ones) to about 1-1.5 inch as simple as that. That red CB slider pass thru about 30 fish, all torn up, I just flip it belly up/down, bite of the head and still catching fish.
FACT at one point I only have just one jig with BG baby shad, it’s been bite until just square body left no head no tail and I still manage to catch a few more bluegill until I call it quit. I might discover new bait, huh? “A square of death”
