Ooh that looks tempting enough to check out.

I hope you get out there, it looks super fishy. I'll be more south today.
Let me know in PM if you want me to look at the waves somewhere for you in the future, if you don't have Surfline and are interested, I'll do that if timing works.

Everydog wrote: Tue Jul 08, 2025 10:40 am Going surf fishing this afternoon. Not much strategy, but mostly sand crabs and shrimp, either in the troughs or shrimp flung out on the reefs.
Butch has me hoping it will be a corbina day for me, or my son. 20 inches or better, please!

A full moon and rush hour traffic might be a temptation to make it a long outing.

This is what I have for spoons, and I have changed hooks on several since then. In a pinch, bass lure stinger hooks are a lot like siwash hooks; perhaps they are the same thing.
Good luck on the corbina.. And anything else…
Butch

It was a grind. I have never seen a calm day in Del Mar like in all the surf fishing YouTube videos. I'd almost take a skunk to deal with a quiet surf zone for a change. I ended with 3 or 4 small perch. A baby and a 3-foot Leopard shark, and an almost decent yellowfin croaker, about 50/50 sand crabs and shrimp, and a sand bass that looks terrible after one of the Lucky Craft (Smelt color) hooks got him in the eye, and I gilled him. I got in the water plenty and saw zero spotfin where I had been catching them. The water felt several degrees colder compared to two weeks ago. I am not sure about that.

Those double trebles on a LC will do a number on a fish (or hand  ) A tough day, I guess, but you did get some fish...

Thank you, Mike
Busy is a good description, primarily because I switched tackles and techniques frequently.

Thanks for the intel offer. I do want to get back up to Del Mar sometime, maybe in a week or two, will let you know. I look at Surfline's free version but it's no longer will give you a live feed, shows previous 24 hour feed.

Went out this morning. Fished from 6:30 to 7:15. Caught 2 perch on crabs. Tried to throw an LC, seaweed almost every cast.
After 45 minutes, just got a cup of coffee and relaxed on the beach.

Hit it again this morning from 06:30 to 09:30.
Dozen perch, and this 12 1/2” guy. All on crabs.
Lost a nice one. Broke me off right in surf. Using 12 lb mono. Seemed like forever, but probably was on for only 60-90 seconds.

It's never a shark that got away, always a Halibut, white seabass, a striper, or a yellowtail...Unless I'm fishing for shark, then it might have been a mako...a big one.

Or an Angel shark in the reef territory . They pull pretty good . Watch out if you land one , surprising amount of teeth in that weird looking jaw .
