...I wonder how much the "soft structure (sand)" has changed since 2017... I would think that the "hard structure (rocks/reefs)" would be pretty much the same... The portions that I have seen at low tide are similar, and there is actually a more recent one with this kind of resolution, Feb 14th 2022. One man said it's just a little more sand lately. I don’t get up to north county all that much but if you’re not wanting to travel much farther than where you’re staying, south carlsbad state beach was where I surf fished for the very first time. I caught a handful of perch and had zero clue what I was doing. I was staying in Carlsbad Village the last few days… I only managed to get out on Tuesday morning from 6-7:30 am.. I got 4-hand sized and 1-dink perch on dried blood worms, at the end of Carlsbad Village Dr. to about 200 yds south.. Mike, it sure looked fishy, other than the water looked a little stained… Don’t know if it was the last rains or what.. Those Sand Crabs show up in numbers on the surface, when the Sea Temperature hits 64 degrees here in Newport Beach. It was the official opening of Surf Fishing season here, for Spotfin and Corbina. We all know the Barred Perch like that colder water but they eat Spinners, Spoons, JerkBaits, Swimbaits, Garden Snails, most any Tidbit that moves with the Surf. We used to catch the crap out of them on chunks of frozen Anchovies too. Gluttons. I never liked to eat them, too soft, until my Mom made Fish Cakes with them. I was the only Kid in School with Fish Cakes and Tartar Sauce for Lunch.

The Buena Vista Lagoon in Oceanside drains out into the ocean after a good amount of rain.
