Mission Bay Spotties 12/12

Post by Dannicus »

Had a great morning in Mission Bay today.  Caught and released 11 nice spotties.

Three inch paddletails on keel-weighted hooks slowly pulled through the grass on the bottom was the ticket today.  I was fishing an ultralight rig with 4 pound test, and had to make sure my drag was set well because all but two were legal sized and full of fight.  Tough to finesse them free of the grass sometimes.

Way fun though!

Dang-o!
Four pound line is gutsy.
I tried it a couple times from shore but lost fish in the weeds.
Even in the float tube (so I can get over 'em and pull straight up)....I nearly always stick to six.
