Nature walk...with bass.

Got that out of the way. Only 2 bass, saw a crap ton of 'em but they just weren't interested in what I was throwing. In a couple spots there were bluegill on the old bass nests.

Found a tiny hungry, angry bird in the middle of the trail, quite a distance from any nearby trees. It was hollering for its parents, or for food. When I leaned down it lifted its head and held its mouth open.
Backed off a ways and nothing came by...except a crow, looking for an easy meal.
Circle of life be damned. Shooed the crow away
Hunted around and found an empty nest nearby. the nest had a hole in the bottom. I stuffed some flattop buckwheat tops in it to block the hole, and put the bird in.

it kept hollering and opening its mouth, and trying to climb out of the nest. found a tiny earthworm, fed it to the bird, and it shut up and hunkered down. So...45 minutes spent.

Not sure whether that bird belonged in that nest...or if it was the wrong nest, whether its parents would come feed it if it called them.

by then it was dusk, so I hit one more fishing spot and headed back to the truck.

Found a spider on the trail...

a hundred yards farther on, ran into a trio of tarantula enthusiasts who were actually out looking for them. Took 'em back and showed 'em where this one had gone into the grass, and they located it and got some pics.

You get an "A" for effort! I've always tried to rescue baby birds..whether it's the right thing to do or not...makes me feel better anyways!

Yeah, Paul. The BAs in Saltwater have been a bust for me. Dropshotting the little ones got a few spotties here and there...but the bigger ones never got me a halibut. Or a corvina.

True...that is not true! Most Mommy birds don't have the ability to smell...they have no idea humans were playing with their offspring! I love animal myths, snakes have some great ones.
