What is C.I.R.A.S. ?

Post by TommyP »

C.I.R.A.S. means California Inland Recreational Anglers Survey being conducted by Ca Dept of F&W. Matt asked me to spread the word. If you search ciras.wildlife.ca.gov/ you can view the website(survey). Open Explore CIRAS to begin. As you can see there are 2 parts to the survey. It looks like No Cal has a head start. When you have a moment open it and play around, this can be helpful to all freshwater fisherman.

I brought up this topic about 2 mo. ago when fishing Miramar lake. The crew were interviewing anglers in the parking lot.

So this is done every time you go out to fish I'm assuming?

Is this to bolser the collection data in addition to the college intern holding a clipboard at our local launch ramps?

To me it looks like this info imputed by fisherman is for future fisherman who have not fished the body of water to have some kind of info in advance. Again it all depends on the input of info. This is a state(CA) sponsored program.

It's voluntary and can be done after every trip to inland waters....even when fish are not caught.....which happens most of the time. I suspect that will not happen very often so our CDFW staff will still be out at selected waters for more intensive and accurate angler surveys when we want to know what is really going on.
