Lake Murray bass fishing

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about fishing at Lake Murray soon and I was wondering if anyone has had success there lately? Also, any specific baits and areas that tend to be good there.

Not very many reports here but there have been some great reports on FB. I haven’t fished it in awhile but according to the reports I’ve read recently, it seems like the fish aren’t busting but are just below the surface and are willing to come up to take a Pop R. The jig head minnow and urchin style baits are also getting bit as well as various spoons like Kastmasters. Dropshot also getting bit. As far as spots, fish are always moving so they can be in the middle of the lake or pushing bait into the tulles. I’d suggest fishing around the tulles and have your head in a swivel looking out for surface activity.

Got 12 all breaking fish on the 11th. They were by the buoy line. You have to be a great caster, lucky and persistent to get them. Most of them wont bite lol

Thanks guys, this is really useful. I’ll be fishing from a kayak, probably early-ish morning. When the fish have been up near the buoy line, has that mostly been first thing in the morning, or later once the sun is up? And are there any particular sections of the buoy line or tule edges that seem to be holding more bait/fish than others?

Later in the morning for me. You'll see randoms but they got going around 9ish till noon.

I've had success with small crankbaits early then down to the bottom after it gets sunny and warms up.

When you’re getting them on the small crankbaits early, are they generally shallow around the bank/tules, or are you finding them over deeper water? Roughly what depth are you targeting?

I fish small crankbaits that dive approx. 10 feet. I like it when I feel them just hitting the top of the grass (milfoil?). I usually get bit just as the bait gets hung or just breaks free of the weeds. This technique accounted for a few 3s and a 4 last week.

Have not been on the water with my boat or kayak at Murray since August 20th but finally fished a few hours
via kayak on Thursday and picked up a handful of bass(mostly small). Wasted too much time looking for breakers.
Anyway...There are areas where there is grass in about 10-20 feet of water and If you toss plastic worms in
there and work them slow, you can pick up some bass. I lost a couple nice ones on jumps, but just wanted to
convey that info. Tight lines
