9/21-A.M. SD River Mixed bag

Hit the SD River around 7:30 this morning and greeted with an overcast sky and a little coolness in the air. Worked a couple spots with action baits and worms and then headed out to a little point where the water is rally shallow and drops off a few feet on the edge of it. I put on a deep diving crank bait and started working the area and had something banged it and came off. This happened a few times and was bugging me because I would set the hook and nothing was there. So I started to work the bait a lot slower and landed 2 more crappie on it which was pretty surprising to me as the crank bait was not some tiny little bait. Anyway, not wanted to catch more crappie I started working a brush hog and some other plastics for a few bass. Before leaving I went back to the crank bait for a few final casts and finally landed a bass on it. Bass were not big but still fun. Catching crappie was the surprise of the day.

I keep thinking of the ones that I missed because I couldn’t understand what was banging my crank bait. I probably could’ve caught a bunch more if I decided to stay there and throw a couple smaller cranks but I went fishing to try to catch bass. Still that was quite a surprise to catch them on that size of a crank bait.

Seen a dingy once years ago in the river, but there is no way on earth I could launch my boat in the river.
I am fishing out of one of my kayaks. The most practical way to fish there is out of a float tube, but I don't
have one.

Got a number of KVD crank baits(seen in pics) years ago at Walmart. They usually have a
good selection at a nice price. Tackle Warehouse is where I get most of my other baits such
as worms, craws and creature baits. I like to be helpful.

I think @Mcfish can tell you what special baits he uses to catch beasts like this:

Geez, I have not been out on the water fishing at Murray in my boat or kayak since August 20th.
Didn't see you on the water when I stopped by the lake here and there since then
to look around and knew something was missing.
Great to have to back on the water in action again at Murray.
Tight lines always and hopefully I will be joining you on the water
soon.
