Disappearing San V Sunday 9/6

Post by Moose »

Finally got a chance to get back out on the water so I figured I’d hit up San V before we lose the ability to launch there also. From the top of the ramp to the dock is close to 300yds now. It’s down about 20 vertical feet since I was there in mid July. It’s really sad what the city is letting happen to ALL of our lakes. Vinny must have some serious pull for the city to keep his lake full!

As for the fishing, it was tough! Took me almost 3 1/2 hrs to get my first bite and first fish, which was MAYBE 6”, on the dropshot. Absolutely ZERO reaction bite early. Threw a Gunfish, popper, small Plopper and a frog for nothing but some Quagga mussels off of tree limbs. Tried a couple of crankbaits, fluke, spinnerbait and chatterbaits all for nada.

Found some main lake breaking fish and a spinnerbait fish to salvage the day. Ended up with 5 fish total. The two breaking fish were nicer grade. 2.95 and 3.89. The spinnerbait fish was right at 2lbs.

Fished from 7-1. The water was 81 and a tad less clear than usual. The wakeboard boats were their usual pain in the butt.

Nicely done! Love it when the biggest fish is taken on a kastmaster. 😆

Enjoyed the pics....especially the ones with the fish. It is so sad see the pics of the lake level. Never thought in a million years that
San V would be so low. Pretty darn crazy!!! Geez...with not many other options to launch a boat Murray had 15 boats out on Friday when
I stopped by to check things out. Maybe there is hope with El Niño coming with the water levels, but I would not hold my breath.
Thank you so much for sharing with us and showing the sad reality of the shape the City Lakes are in. Just looking at that one pic,
that long walk from the bottom of the ramp back to my truck would probably kill me! I would have to hire an Uber driver.
Anyway...thanks for the post and tight lines always buddy. :-)

Trust me, that walk SUCKED! especially in 90 degree, humid weather!

Once the current launch ramp is out of the water, doesn't that put us at the level of the old damn? Then once we get to the spillway level of the old dam, we could/ should launch on the old ramp?

Personally I like the old SV way better.

Thank for the report. There were a couple of nice one in there!
