Torrey Pines 7/17

Was at the beach before 6AM, super low tide. Was able to find some sand crabs.
No bites, even single nibble on C-Rig, was about to call it a day when things picked up after 7:30 AM with incoming tide.
Got Corbina (first this season), 2 Yellowfin Croakers, Sting Ray, and Barred SurfPerch.
Left before 9AM.
Water was clear, Tuesday was salad, sand crabs beds are not as abundant as usual, in fact had hard time finding any at a higher tide.
Starting Saturday and the whole next week we should see some high energy swell, unless things change looks like no go for surf fishing.
But seems like things are picking up, finally.

Outgoing to peak low tides are aligning with my fishing window(s) this weekend so I'll likely sit it out. With the lack of crabs around so far, I really have not had success during those conditions so likely sitting this weekend out. Might just go walk the beach, check out the structure, etc. It's always hard for me to stay away entirely

Saturday morning might not be that bad, looks like swell from Elida will pick up in the evening and after that it's pretty much the whole week of high surf.

Any time I see "overhead" swells... yikes! Fun to walk the pier in those conditions, though. Maybe I'll just go and people watch.

You did well to wait for the tide change. Those deep minus lows haven't been working for me either this year like in past years. Bonus also to find some crabs. Weekend likely a wipe out from the Elida swell.

Nice excursion… I need to get some of those finny critters…. That incoming swell looks to mess with some of my plans….

Hello everyone! First time posting, long time lurker. Anyway, went out this morning with son at around 5:30am. I was fishing with about a 4" keitech swim bait hoping to catch halibut. Got one nibble in the first hour then it really picked up at 6:45am. Caught a 15" yellowfin croaker just before 7am. Surprised he was able to swallow the bait as it was nearly the same size as his mouth. Son was ready to go after that.

That's a solid Yellow fin. Nice going ! Don't know if I would have had the patience to chuck a swim bait for an hour.

Yep, well about two weeks ago I fished for about 2 1/2 hours with only one nibble. I've been mostly fishing at windansea, but I read about fishing early morning right after a grunion run, so I thought I'd try my luck. I do think it was picking up right when we left.

Nice, I saw them going for Lucky Craft as well. Here.
Something I should try next outing perhaps, hali is so rare and Yellow fin is not a bad bycatch to beat the skunk.

The Lucky Craft is great, but I got tired of removing the seaweed.
