Topwater greenies

Found this lure (Rebel crickhopper) the other day at Murray. This is a floating, shallow diving crankbait. Took it to my urban green sunfish spot. Fish on first three casts. Nine fish total, including a few on the hallowed topwater strike! They hit within seconds of splashdown. Others hit a slow retrieve. Maybe a downside of the lure is that its action seemed inconsistent from cast to cast, though it can be fished a variety of ways. I had a uni knot tied to the lure's split ring.

Got one of the alpha fish annoyed with something bigger.

It makes sense that they would hit a grasshopper soon after splash down. I imagine that grasshoppers make mistakes and hop onto the water surface form time to time and that's it for the hopper.

Honeybees are a popular food item at this spot. When they vibrate on the surface of the water, it drives the fish crazy. There are also many caterpillars that end up in the water. I've also been using a mini crawdad crank the same size as the grasshopper with great success, especially in areas with more turbid water. These greenies have become my 'learning fish' this year, as I get back into the sport.
