FINALLY back on the water! San V 5/24

Post by Moose »

First time on the water since Jan. Hate it when the real world gets in the way of my fishing!

Hit up San V today. Got there about 6:15 and was surprised to find only 3 trailers in the parking lot. Was a beautiful, warm, overcast morning. Perfect for some top water, or so you’d think 🤷🏻‍♂️ Started out with a Pop-R and missed a fish on my first cast. Missed one on a Gunfish about 10min later but followed up with a dropshot and got the first fish of the day. It was odd, I had one bite on every top water I threw. Pop-R, Gunfish, buzz bait, frog, and a plopper. Just a single bite on each and nothing stuck.

Saw some cruisers up shallow so started pitching a dropshot out in front of them. Ended up getting 3 that way and then 3 out deeper on the dropshot. Biggest was only 2lbs but it was great to just be back out on the water.

When I got back to Barona this morning it was deafeningly quiet. I was nice to not hear any boats running around. Needless to say, with it being a holiday weekend, it didn’t last long. Was basically forced off the water at noon. There were 13, THIRTEEN, wakeboard or jet boats just hanging out on Barona, drifting around. Left no where to move around and of course they would drift right on top of where I was casting without a clue they were close to me. The ride back in was an adventure with all of the wakeboarders being pulled around.

Very sad to see how low the lake is getting. Water is super clear. Won’t be long until every bass boat in San Diego will be on either Murray or San V ☹️☹️

Great to see a report from you a which is always fun to read. Sadly, those jet boats or whatever they’re called just make it not fun at times out at San V but probably expected on a three day holiday weekend.
But getting back on the water is what’s most important and catching some bass. It always keeps me motivated no matter what the bite is like to get back out there. Anyway, best wishes and tight lines always :-)

Great to hear you got back on the water, we've been missing your reports! No doubt the thought of wakeboard boats tearing up the lake intimidated alot of fisherman from showing up! It's become very obvious this year that fishermen are 3rd class citizens in San Diego! Between the disappearing launch ramps and the wakeboard boats, a fisherman with a boat is rapidly becoming an extinct species!! Our choices of where we can put our boats in has all but disappeared!

I agree with you Mcfish I was on San V with my boat last week only to be chased off the water early by all the swells of wakeboarders and their loud bad music. So next day tried to launch my pontoon at El Cap and it was a no go because of the mud up to my calves. More like quicksand so THIS THIRD CLASS CITIZEN left to try the surf. Glad to see you back Moose.

What’s really frustrating/ infuriating, is the article in the Tribune last week about how well off California is water wise. Several reservoirs in Central and Northern California are at 110% capacity. That’s, literally, 100% more than El Cap and Sutherland! Plus the city is now selling off its “surplus” water to Riverside county. WTF?!? If we have such a surplus, where the hell is it? Because it sure as hell isn’t in our lakes! 🤬🤬

Not just every bass boat, but every boat that the owner does not want to be put in to the salt.

Thanks for the report.

Then don’t buy a boat that should be in the salt. If your boat is over 2000lbs, it belongs in the bay!!!! They don’t say “Lakeliner” on the side of that pleasure boat. I don’t really care about corrosion in your POS wakeboard boat. What kinda we Todd goes to the lake for water
contact when it’s $hitty and overcast outside?!?!
