Pt loma calicos

Post by keoni_t »

Thinking of heading out this weekend for some kelp activities. Has anybody been since the water has been warming up? I love a good kelp calico bite!

The bass bite hasn't been too great yet since the water warmed up then cooled off

If you did go, let us know how it went

Poked my head out there for an hour or two. Water temps were WAY WAY cooler than the bay. Like 60/61 still. Didn't see much for calicos or other baitfish except huge schools of Jacksmelt. I'll wait for temps to rise a little more before heading out again.

The water temps rebounded a bit, the bass should start getting a lot more active this month. I'm usually out in LJ and fish for bass every once in a while and it has been slow there too lately

Was out off La Jolla last Saturday (5/2).....5 of us caught 12 Calicos, with 2 keepers. And a HD bucket full of macks. Only out there about 3 hours, had to come into MB due to a first timer getting sick. People on the radio said it was slow. We were happy. We came into the bay and caught 6 or 7 Spotties and a tiny Sand Bass.........I was happy, I caught all 3 bass for the tri-fecta.

Was out there on the 7th and the temps from PB were colder than LJ but they wanted to bite over there. Caught 20# yellowtail, 30# white sea bass and 25# halibut.

MB water temp: 62
LJ water temp: 67
