Mission Beach 4/25

Post by jwacky »

Fished north Mission Beach from 6:00-8:30, slightly after the peak high tide as it receded. It was fairly windy when I stepped out of my car but there was no turning back!

It wasn’t too bad by the ocean so must’ve been more of a tunneling effect between buildings that made it feel worse. Certainly wasn’t calm, but I expected worse. It was fairly easy to keep my line in front of me throughout the morning although if I were to describe the early conditions in one word, it’d be “sloppy”.

Slow start, but after moving up and down the beach 100 yards or so I settled into a nice spot and ended up with 9-10 perch on the morning. Mostly small, but some medium sized mixed in. It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve caught anything over 4-5”, so those medium size perch were nice for a change. I knew they weren’t anything crazy as I was reeling them in, but it felt nice to have a semblance of a fight.

Mussels worked ok, but the dried lugworms were getting hit pretty hard. No sand crab sightings.

The water got grassy as the tide went out and as the bite dried up, I packed up my gear. All in all a decent morning. Quantity is always fun.

All those small perchies at least keeps you focused for something bigger & beats not getting action at all. Thanks for the report Joe. :)
