FISH TAG INFORMATION

Post by Queue »

Attention Barrett Anglers..

CDFW has tagged several hundred LMB to gain information on the growth of individual fish. Please DO NOT REMOVE THE TAGS. We can't compare growth if we do not have the tag information still attached to the fish. See the flyer below and THANK YOU for your participation.

Thanks for the information!

But will there be a handout describing this to all the persons entering the lake?

Or is it going to be more of a verbal notification or ??

I think 80% of the regulars will now know but the other 20% will not (I’m only guessing at the percentages) will not.

Maybe they’ll think it’s a “tag” to be turned in and yank and or pull the tag off - OUCH!

Can’t blame them for ripping it off the fish if they didn’t know what it is.

Posting it at the dock office won’t do much good either, maybe a little, but in everyone’s rush in the morning and it’s not well lit there, most will not pay attention to it.

So keep a pen or pencil and paper handy to jot down the information requested.

I know for me, I’ll be too tired to remember the few pieces of 411 needed.

Hope I (we) can all help out with their research/survey.

to be honest, posting this notice is more about not pulling the tags off than it is about turning them in for the very reasons you mention. We tried this citizen science approach a couple of years ago and the participation was extremely underwhelming. If anglers can notate/report the info...great. At minimum we'd like anglers to just leave the tags and we'll return on our own or do another SHARE event where we can record proper measurements of tagged fish down the road.

@Queue If it would be helpful, I can print out and laminate a bunch of copies of this PDF and leave them with the folks who run the gate (Jose, can't remember woman's name). This way they could staple or nail them up around the dock and pig's launch areas.
