Re: Reports from San V?
What is funny to me is with El Cap closed for boating, I would just assume many would be hitting San V. But I have
talked to many guys who have boats, or in tackle shops and especially guys over that now have been hitting Murray
and there seems to be a consensus. Too many dinks and small bass at San V so many guys have told me and that is
why they don't fish there. I have heard it so many times and even asked the ever elusive @Mcfish and
he said the same thing. I guess that is why it has been pretty quiet on this site. Maybe your post will inspire someone
to post something showing some nice bass from the V? Or maybe it will stay pretty quiet.

I stopped going there water so low, the walk up the ramp is killer. Had to fish deep, not a fan of venting them. A lot of boats.

Re: Reports from San V?
Fished it Saturday morning till around 2 when it seemed like everyone was leaving at the same time. The water started off at 68.4 and when we left it was around 73 degrees. When we left the thermometer read 90 degrees and no letting up. It was very busy with both pleasure boaters and bass boats throughout the day. The bite was inconsistent but yes there are plenty of dinks to be had. I only got 7 fish in the boat for the day the best going 2.5#. the rest of them where 1 to 2#'s. Lots of quagga muscles in the trees by the shoreline = lots of lost tackle. There were still a few bass on beds and some fry as well. Hope this helps........

You can definitely feel the "burn" on the way back up the ramp.

You would think that with only Otay and San V being lakes big enough to support tournaments that still have launch ramps in the water, they would be getting hammered.

No doubt!! Otay reports have been a bit thin as well now that you mention it.KillinTime wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 3:00 pm You would think that with only Otay and San V being lakes big enough to support tournaments that still have launch ramps in the water, they would be getting hammered.

Re: Reports from San V?
The raising of the dam messed this lake up.
All the variable cover, breaks, rocks, flats, creek channels, etc are 20'+ under water now.
It's a totally different lake now.
One thing that would help increase the size LMB at San V would be if trout were stocked again.
Bass fishing in SD is at a sad state compared to where & what it once was.

Re: Reports from San V?
I think adding trout would help but what would really help more is if we as fisherman started culling some of the smaller fish so the bass would have more forage hence the bass would get larger. We as fisherman have been grilled into our minds from an early age "Catch and Release" but Im starting to rethink our strategies especially now with the water in all our lakes is much lower adding to the density of the fish populations competing for the same forage.

The government is going to take care of culling for us. Drain the lakes until the fish die. Some DA's believe we have an abundance of water.

Re: Reports from San V?
The lake will soon be at the old lake level at the rate they're sucking water out! A bigger problem is a lack of shad in the lake...it's takes alot of silversides to fill up a bass.....Kenroe wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 10:21 am The raising of the dam messed this lake up.
