Could you tell I was having issues earlier trying to fix that message? Haha…

One is better than none... Congrats on the skunk breaker...RBFishing wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 4:50 pm I found my way to North Ponto beach. Caught 1 hand sized BSP. Tide was -1.1 at mid day so I was able to wade out far.

Tamarack beach North jetty of the North Agua Hedionda outlet 3-15 morning. I had a few nibbles and one corbina on a 2" motor oil grub on c-rig.

Went out from 4pm to 5:30. 2 perch, combined length under 10”. A few more nibbles, probably the same size. Both on camo gulp. Switched to bloodworm gulp - no takers.

Tamarack 3-22-26. 1 8" BSP on the c-rig grub. I hooked something so large I could not pull it in and then it shook the hook.

Re: North County trips.
Same happened to me last week, C-Rig Gulp worm, thought I snagged as couldn't pull the line, but then felt some head shakes and line started zipping from the reel, I probably adjusted drag too high in order to stop so it cut off.bdb74 wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 10:42 am Tamarack 3-22-26. 1 8" BSP on the c-rig grub. I suspect it was either ray or guitarfish, what else big like that will take Gulp worm. That what makes surf fishing so exciting, you never know what kind of monsters lurking there and what you can hook.
Nick has a great fisherman tale on hooking up Great White, entertaining reading.

Looking good up north with some 1-2 foot surf? Has anybody gone fishing today/lately? I can't go today. Haven't been fishing much at all. How is the fishing and sand crab emergence? Anywhere happening for you?

Re: North County trips.
I was at Tamarack several times over the last 2 weeks and could discern no structure whatsoever. I saw no one else catch anything and the looks on their faces said "skunked". I worked hard up and down the beach for maybe 1 BSP each trip. The sand crabs are the size of pillbugs. The only fish I saw were BSP under 6" close to shore. Whatever is going on in the posts about other places seems like a different county or state compared to Carlsbad right now.

Re: North County trips.
Thanks for your update. I got out yesterday afternoon. Even around the submerged reefs, good holes were hard to find; subtle differences in stacking waves made a difference, though. I felt it was too rough for Lucky Craft, so I switched to gulp sand worms and dehydrated lug worms. After about 3 hours, I got 6 small perch and two small yellowfin croaker. Sand crabs are tiny, but beds are coming along. One of the friendly surfers said he saw a good school of chunky spotfin croaker. North Torreypines /Del Mar Border. Some big kelp stringers were coming in, but otherwise fair on the weeds.

Re: North County trips.
I've been seeing schools of them and corbina at Blacks these past 2 weeks. They were feeding hard today, I think on bean clams. I did not see any sandcrabs.Everydog wrote: Fri Apr 10, 2026 11:19 am One of the friendly surfers said he saw a good school of chunky spotfin croaker. North Torreypines /Del Mar Border.
