El Capitan 3/17

Post by Dannicus »

Had a pretty good day at El Cap, final count was 7, all jig and worm fish, but nothing big.

That will be my last trip to The Captain until they raise the water some. I got completely stuck in the mud trying to launch and wrenched both my old arthritic knees trying to get out. Our wonderful lakes are in serious trouble gents.

Thanks for the report Dan.
They should come up with a makeshift type of launch platform for the tube guys.

I have to agree with you. Growing up fish the lakes in the 80s and 90s, it turns me off with what we have now. Management and Levels both.
I still believe a bad day fishing is better that a great day working=D

I launched at the bathrooms closer to the dam for my first trip there last week, and man, bringing my stuff back up the hill in the heat after my session was pretty brutal! Between my trolling motor, lithium battery and my rods and tackle, it felt like 5-6 trips back and forth with breaks in between to try to catch my breath in the heat. I liked launching from that position, but I may just launch by the ramp next time, we’ll see…

Nice bag.
When i was there last, I too had issues with the mud and lauching/landing. The rangers were down trying to pull the dock out further using the lake boat. After the rangers guy wired the docks off to the Deadman anchors which completely blocked trying to launch between the docks with all the cables criss-crossing.
They saw me struggling, didn't help but 1 guy said I can launch by any means necessary and if that ment using the dock to launch my kayak, go for it.
I was thinking it might work if i could fit to launch but landing is another story.
It is a bummer, id like to go more but I'm getting old and just getting on a off the water sucks, esp w/ a almost 200# loaded kayak.

I’m with you on the bad knees, nice catches you’re always pulling them out of some lake, congrats.
Did you catch them all on Plastic worms?

A reminder from your Mayor Toad Gloria and the City council: the lakes are for storing water, not for fishing...And because of your leaders, the lakes now suck at both!

Yet over at Miramar, too much water as my buddy took this pic yesterday.
Last week the water started halfway down where the railing are on that dock.
Pretty crazy eh?

I fished Miramar on Saturday, 3/14, and I can confirm that it's super full. Tied up my tube at the second fishing pier across the lake for a bathroom break and had to wade through waist-deep water at the entrance of the pier to get up to the road. Pretty crazy indeed!

I hate that statement about a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. I mean you must have never had a job because a good day at work is rewarding and you come home feeling like you have accomplished a task of some kind while a bad day of fishing sucks. I have just spent 10 maybe 12 hours on the lake and maybe have two fish or even worse no bites at all and some jackass comes by and I swear I would like to go upside their head with something that would hurt but, I laugh and say wow I have never heard that
one before how funny.
O well Later

That’s what happens when you get an old as dust, you forget what you’ve read and you forget what you've said.
It’ll happen to you, quite scary.

A couple of worm fish and the rest were jigs.
