Mission Beach 2/21

Post by jwacky »

Nice perch bite this morning at Mission Beach!

I had my line in the water by 6:30am and fished the incoming tide from low to about its halfway point, and wrapped things up by 9:30ish.

It took a little longer than usual to see any action but once I did, I caught 12 perch throughout the course of the morning. All mostly medium size. I had a couple large bites that I wasn’t able to hook up, and lost one larger size fish at the shore, but I’m guessing they were still “just” perch.

The low tide was relatively calm and clean. Occasional small clumps of kelp throughout the morning but nothing that wasn’t easily avoidable. The current picked up after a few hours, but by that point I was done anyway.

Mussels were easy favorite of the fish today, although I did catch a couple on lugworms. Sure was a cold morning, though, at least on the sand.

A dozen is a great outing! My PB this year is 5 in a 2 hr session, all on kastmasters. Probably going to try Coronado at sundown today.

Awesome! Glad to hear the fish are fishing. I think I'm going to take advantage of the cold and head to black's for a session. The bigger bites may be yfc im seeing more of them and they hit at 20 mph

Maybe. They're really hard pulls/tugs at the line, kinda out of nowhere and no real follow-up action. I'd almost guess it was seaweed/kelp, but it doesn't stick to the line or on the hook as I'd expect it to if that were the case. It's happened a couple times in the past few sessions. Fingers crossed that one of them bites the hook a little too hard and I get a pre-summer croaker in the next week or two
