Made it out to Mission Beach this morning to get some fishing in before peak high tide. It was messy. Couple line snags in the grass, including a full on snap, strong currents, and very powerful waves. Surf report says 7’ but I’m sitting at Woody’s drinking a coffee and the water is coming up to only 20 or so feet from the boardwalk.
I did manage to catch three medium-ish perch from 6:30 until about 8:00, but one of my goals this year is to keep this fun and not turn it into something that feels like a chore so with the peak tide, I packed things up. Both mussels and lugworms caught fish.
The real prize of the morning was the moonset. I’ve never seen one before but a walker tipped me off to it yesterday so I made sure to get here extra early to take it in. Pics don’t do it justice but it didn’t disappoint.

Re: Mission Beach 2/1
Indeed. I was talking with a surfer as we were both walking back to our cars, each of us slightly bemoaning our mornings with conditions. We had a good laugh at the absurdity of our complaints given the weather conditions in most of the country right now
