El Capitan Nov.23

Post by Dannicus »

Had a fun morning at the Cap with @Early release, @CorsoEnthusiast, and @Pourboy. I only caught 3 includingnone swimbait fish, and a couple on topwater Gunfish. Jeremy did the best of all of us, and held down the fort with around 7 I believe. He put on a Neko rig clinic.

To be fair though we weren't power fishing in any sense. We spent as much time in friendly conversation as fishing while Chris broke in his really awesome looking new ride. Of course with any new equipment change there is a learning and adjustment period, but personally I think he's going to really like it when he gets it all set up.

After a beautiful day we shared a great lunch. I am grateful to have met some really good people through this forum, and suspect we'll be friends for many years.

Happy Thanksgiving all, and tight lines!

Hi Dan, it really was an excellent day and a lot of fun with buddies. Jeremy definitely had the magic touch yesterday on the fish. Chris's new tube is really nice, I think there's going to be a lot of new adventures with that.

Always a pleasure fishing with all of you guys!

Neko is just a technique I have high confidence in and it paid off for me yesterday.

How's the water level after the rain?
Can boats launch now?

Yes a little bit anyway. Water temp was in the low 60s when we first got on the water. It climbed a few degrees later in the day.

Water level is still low. A couple of brave boats did launch yesterday but I think it's quite an iffy proposition at best.

Water is down a foot or more even after the rain, Helix is still taking drinking water from the lake. It’s going to be awhile before full boat launch is open. Guys in 14’ or smaller Jon boats can launch at their own risk, they’ve barely got any room to work with now.

If you do try to launch a boat, go to the launch ramp furthest away from the pier, it goes into the water deeper.

It was a fun learning experience. The new ride is definitely taking some getting used to. I need to tweak some things and adjust others. I definitely did not fish as hard this time out.

I will have a full setup video coming soon.

Nice setup Chris! I recently scored an awesome deal on a Sevenbass tube, so I’m a new fan of the European tubes as well haha. I’ve got it rigged up with a Humminbird Helix 5, and just need to get a lithium battery to run my trolling motor on the mount it came with. The only downside is the storage bags don’t fit American (large) tackle boxes. Had to order some new smaller boxes that’ll fit in the zipper compartments. But I’m stoked on it for my first tube!

I remember you posting a new ride around a year ago? Right?

Is this one a major step up?

Congratulations!

That was actually over 2 years ago, and yes, this is a major upgrade. I reached out to Float Plus after he got his and connected with them. I will tell all about the new tube and many other upgrades

This is my tube. Chris's model is the newest one Float Plus makes, and an upgrade over mine. Both models are awesome. Really thought out and intelligently designed. Mine took a bit of getting used to at first, but after having it for several months, I really love it.
