South Bay Cruise N Snooze....

Float tubes are a convenient and affordable way to get on the water, and finally get to those fish that you can't reach from shore. Discuss float tubes, outfitting float tubes for fishing, and float tube fishing.

South Bay Cruise N Snooze....

Post by Carpkiller »

Wasted a good tide by fishing where the fish weren't.....and kicking across just about the hole darn bay to fish one hole....that wasn't where I thought it was.

And that was after getting lost in the fog. Moreso than usual.

But it was a nice day, and once again the homemade "whatever you do, don't call it a chatterbait or you might get sued" did an great job of sawing through the eelgrass and finding some fish.

Seventeen spotties and two halibut.

And I've been wondering about the weird white rocks scattered around the bottom. The tide was low enough today to see that they weren't rocks...but jellies that were sitting on the bottom with their tentacles facing up.

I scooped one up...apologies for the crappy video, but the tube was bounding around and the little animal would not take direction very well.

EDIT: Turns out, the jellies that sit upside down on the bottom are called...."upside down jellies," Genus Cassiopeia. That's what the folks at Inaturalist told me. So I reached out to a guy at the Birch Aquarium, he confirmed the Genus, and told me they're non-native. Prolly came in ballast on a freighter...the usual story.
