Interesting catch 8/31
Got down to Shelter Island before sunup. The last few weeks I haven’t been able to buy a bite. A guy and his son I’ve ran into a few times showed up, we’re chatting and I got what felt like a huge bump, rod bendo, felt like it was glued to the bottom and there was zero fight, just dead weight. I figured I’m snagged on an oyster-covered rock or something. Finally break it loose and they’re cheering like I have a big Hali or something. We were all wrong! The cutest little 2-Ring Octopus wanted my jig lol. Beautiful blue and black rings on his body. Definitely a first for me so I got some pics and video and set him free. I didn’t rip that tentacle off either, it was already missing. Also, the only thing I caught (or maybe snagged?) that day…

Caught one of his buddies this morning at Santa Clara point. Always a fun surprise to see them.

I caught my PB Spotty there with a fresh mussel I scraped off the seawall by the rental place!JvTriton wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 9:44 am Caught one of his buddies this morning at Santa Clara point. Always a fun surprise to see them.

I love them too, they're so quirky and intelligent, and my ex hates them, so even more satisfying to me lol.

Re: Interesting catch 8/31
A few years back, I caught one there at shelter Island. I thought I had just hooked up to some seaweed as I’m pulling it in. I’m thinking it’s just huge piece of see weed I get it to shore and it’s at least 6 feet wide from tentacles spread out and my lure is stuck and I’m trying to figure out how to get it out and there’s no one around. I finally get close enough and tightened up the line when the lure just popped out almost hit me in the face and it just swims right back into the water for me. It was outrageously crazy never seen anything like it, one of my first salt water shore experiences, scared the bahookas out of me.
