Carlsbad 8/28
After work session from 4pm-7pm.The little bit of rain just before helped clear the beach of people quite nicely. Caught 5 yellowfin croaker and 2 surf perch. Almost all my bites were past the breakers barely anything in close. Tried for halibut on a double dropshot with no luck but doubled up on croaker. Overall not a bad evening.

Are you launching from the jetty to get past the break ? Only way from the sand is to be near waist/chest high out in the surf to toss a 3-4 oz setup out there & hope it holds. Dangerous IMO. Just wondering, have seen guys with the really long rods & heavy setups throw it along way but few get past the outer break except at really low tide conditions.

I was only waist deep with an 8'6 rod. The breakers were close so it was possible for me to just get past them. Normally, I'm never able to get past them.Perch killer wrote: Thu Aug 28, 2025 9:43 pm Are you launching from the jetty to get past the break ?
