First time at Murray

Post by hosemonkey »

Took the float tube out at Murray today 8/07 from about 9-1. Saw lots of busting fish when I first got my tube in the water and caught two Dinks on a small paddle tail. Had my flipping stick so I decided to go flip the tullies for the next few hours for nada. It was a fun few hours.

Hey, glad you got out there and gave it a go.
I stopped by the lake for a few minutes to look around and did not see really anyone much fishing. There was a guy across the lake on the point in a float tube …maybe that was you? Murray is an interesting lake and sometimes everything works out well…other times you work hard and it’s tough.
Hopefully, you’ll hit it again a few more times and have better luck.
Tight lines :-)

It was a great day. I probably could’ve caught a few more doing other things but I love flipping so I decided to just stick with that. Sometimes I just want to catch them how I want to catch them even if it’s not really what’s working on a particular day.

When the water was higher, probably three years ago or more ago I caught a lot of bass flipping. I would flip Tokyo rigs 90% of the time deep in the tulles and did pretty well over the years with plastic worm or craw trailers. But ever since they lowered the water and never raised it back up I just haven’t had that same type of luck I used to have. Outside most of the tulles edge years ago it was at least 10 feet of water or more in some of the coves. The tulles are slowly growing out and it’s getting a little deeper, but the guys who worked there for the city said the water level will never go back up the way it used to be years ago.
It seems now most of the bass i catch now are in deeper water. Almost all the bass I caught on Monday were in at least 20 feet of water or deeper.
