Spoiler alert — the fishing is good!
My son and I arrived late (~10:30) and closed the place down as usual. In contrast to last weekend when we were catching most of our quality fish along rocky shorelines, Sunday was all about finding them in the stick ups. I beat Theo 34/31, but he scored the fish of the day at 4.9lbs on a weightless fluke.
Our numbers have been down slightly from May when we were hovering around our PBs of low 50’s (me) and 60’s (Theo), but so goes the ever changing dynamic of the lake. I enjoy trying to figure things out each excursion — the same spots and lures last weekend weren’t producing the same results this time. However, we got 3 over 4lbs and several over 3lbs so the quality was there for us after we started to make sense of things.
Winners for us were white 4 and 5” flukes (a new favorite, especially in snag prone stick ups — thank you Sean), 4” wacky Senkos, 2.5” slim swims, Maribou hair jigs, shaky heads, and curly tail grubs. Not much luck on top water, chatterbait, or Ikas (which are some of my traditional favorites).
Side note: is there a serious lack of birds and baitfish this season or am I crazy? We did see a Golden Eagle which I appreciated for its rarity, but otherwise birds have been scarce—except for a large supply of turkey vultures who have been gorging on a notable number of dead fish I’ve seen.
Now all I need to do is survive the week until we get back out there on Saturday!

Theo just keeps adding on!! Good job both of you
It is a puzzle to solve every trip. We have been lucky to find the same lures working the last 2 trips but do not expect that to continue.
