Biting midges

This is just my experience around Shelter Island and the Bali Hai. If you're gonna fish around there, wear pants or lots of bug spray. My legs got destroyed this past Sunday. Thing is, I didn't even feel it happening, until an hour or so later when my legs broke out in nasty, fiery, oozing bites. It's an itch worse than anything I've had before, nothing seems to help, and they stick around for what seems like forever. I want to take a belt sander to my legs. Just a warning to everyone. Lesson learned. The 2 spotties I landed weren't worth this misery!

NO SEEUMS are the worst . Haven't had much trouble in SoCal with them , SD river Mosquitoes and ticks are a different story . Standing in salt water and rubbing with sand has worked for me in the past and maybe a little less invasive compared to belt sander . A mild ammonia solution and a cotton ball is probably the best if you can stand the odor . Thanks for the report . WR

You're right, a belt sander is a bit excessive. I'll start with an orbital sander and work my way up lol

Had an acquaintance that had to go to urgent care after battling them all day at a local lake. Like he said, he didn't feel them bite.

But he definitely saw the consequences of them.
