An El Cap Kinda Weekend

Post by CorsoEnthusiast »

Feels like spring is on the horizon.. I spent both days this weekend at El Cap. Chatted with @Early release on Friday and he mentioned that he and @Pourboy were heading to Cap Sunday morning. I was already tentatively planning a trip there Saturday so I'd get a chance to scout a bit.

Saturday started with a small crankbait fish on the second cast on BFS. The only non keeper of the weekend. The next cast I hooked up again but was doomed to the rocks with 6lb test on a BFS rig. Managed a couple crankbait fish and lost 3 fish and a couple more baits. Lesson learned, bumping the BFS rig up to 8# test for Sunday. Reaction bite slowed down and I started throwing the dropshot. Immediately paid dividends and fish were better quality than the crank eaters for me. Finished the day with 5 landed and 3 lost.

Sunday I met Pourboy and Early release at first light and kicked to the other side of the main lake. I tossed crankbaits both BFS and standard size without any success for the first hour. I again went to the dropshot and it didn't take long to get the skunk off. I had a blast today fishing with the guys - super grateful for the tows - it was really fun to get to fish areas that are typically out of kicking range for me. Meeting and getting to fish with people I've met through this community - especially when we're all catching like today - has made some of the coolest experiences for me.

Ended the day with 5 landed and 1 that broke off in the rocks. It feels like the cork is about to pop down there.

Nice job out there buddy and some nice bass.
Looks like you had a fun weekend and had some
great company fishing on Sunday with @Pourboy and @Early release. Love the pics and your comment….”it feels like cork is about to pop.” That is some good news after the way this year started for many of us.
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always :-)

Awesome! Wish I could've joined you all yesterday. Next time! When you're ready to add a Bixpy under that tube hit me up and I'll help you install it. You'll absolutely love it.

I was there with you guys on Sunday. It was a pretty great pre-fishing session for us. I recognized faces, but I didn't wanna intrude on ya'lls launching.

It would be great to have met you. We had a blast. Were you in a tube, kayak or boat?

That was a super fun time out on the water! Always come and say hi! I agree that the lake feels ready to pop. I should have my video out tomorrow if anyone is interested.
Cheers!

Adding to Jeremy's post. It was a pretty good day for all baits. Chris caught fish with his jigging. It was like watching a master class, I was right next to him and he bounced the jig in what must have been inches of water, dragged it a bit and then swung for the fences. We then learned I have no idea what a fish weighs, but good news, I underestimate, so when I say I lost something big, I'm going to refer to this information. :)

I got a few on shallow and deep PC5 cranks. Tom had a few bites, but I can't remember what they were on. It does feel like it's going to be good soon.

My buddy and I were in a Z18 Nitro....black and silver.

Looks like it was a pretty good day on the water for everyone.

I'll post a quick report in a few.
