Red House-SD Sports Arena 1969

Post by VinnyBass »

Sitting inside out of the cold and drinking coffee this morning I thought of an old song that Jimi Hendrix performed at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1969. Being a guitar player myself(more of a hack), I just was always amazed at how Jimi could just improvise and just do things with his guitar that no guitar player during his time could. I'm an old timer and never got to see him live and not sure many of you younger folks would enjoy this.....but I always
enjoyed listening to him perform anything from tasteful chops to shredding on his guitar. Hope a few of you enjoy this. :-)

Thanks for posting, he was a master I’m a blues guitar player myself, I’m 74 and I was able to see most of the hot 60’s bands from Clapton, Jeff Beck, Cream, Stones our band opened for B.B King down on Broadway at Jazzville ( do you remember that club ) there was two bands, I never saw The Beatles and Hendrix I really wish I did. Thanks for the Red House it’s a classic I haven’t listened too in awhile.

Thanks for sharing this Vinny. Takes me waaay back… (I’ve heard this version of Red House before, but didn’t know it was in SD). Long-time blues fan here. Hendrix’s (studio) version is what got me hooked.

When I was a kid my older sister dated a guy who had to move out of his college dorm for the summer and needed a place to store his stuff – including an awesome record collection and stereo. Set it all up in my bedroom, (haha). Many a night I spent listening to a whole new world of rock/blues on his headphones. It was a goldmine! (I should point out this was the mid 70’s and I lived in a small town/rural area. Access to “new” music was tough)

Played this LP countless times... ;)

Played that album so much I nearly wore the groves out on the vinyl. Every song was just so much fun to listen to.
A few bands I was in over the years covered all of those songs but not "Remember." Of course never even a fraction
close of how Jimi played them. Lots of great memories!

I opened up my vinyl collection to my 18 yr old Granddaughter… Every time she comes over, she goes thru the stack… Always leaves with 1/2 dozen or so… Makes me feel good to see her enjoying all of my old ‘60s and ‘70s stuff..I have or had a lot of Hendrix’s albums…. Both her, and her brother are big fans of the old stuff…

Yup, same here... A visit to an audiologist is in my future for sure.
