It was suppose to snow yesterday (Saturday)with a high of 36 degrees...but we wanted to go fishing anyway. So off to the lake we went, watching the swirling snow blow across the highway. By the time we hit the shoreline, just a few big flakes were falling out of the sky and the sun would be peeking through the clouds shortly. I hadn't caught any brown trout so far this year, and was hoping (as usual) that I might connect with one during the course of the day. What luck that two crossed my path. They were beauties. First thing in the morning I caught a colorful male and a couple of hours later, I caught the more subdued colored female. My partner asked if we were going to keep them, but I told him no and released both. Up here, people like to eat their fish, and they love brownies, but I stood firm. I told my buddy that he was welcome to keep whatever suited him, but I wanted my fish to proliferate the lake with lots more browns. We took home a couple of large rainbows instead.
Fishing was slow, and the temperature never got above freezing, so the guides on my fishing rod were constantly icing up and in need of being dunked in the lake to clear them. Around 2:30, the wind got pretty ferocious, so we called it a day. It was well worth braving the weather for the lovely brownies I caught. The fish were hitting half ounce gold or copper spoons, they often do on this particular body of water. Maybe another week or so before the lake freezes over for the winter.

Never butt heads with buttheads.
