San V. 11/14

Went to San V. The water is down to muscles now. Easy to cut your line as I did. I started top water pushed it for as long I can stand it for nothing. Still some busters happening, didn't want to chase them. Fished my normal haunts or I should say the area as my spots are out of the water. Found plenty of fish but only a few takers. Even found some wolf packs that use to easy money, not today. Kept working deeper and deeper (not a fan). Finally 35 to 40 ft found takers. Nothing big but still fun.
Back in the day I use to get made fun of for using light tackle and line. Now it's all the craze. I now have a happy medium that works well for me.

I also used to be shocked at guys fishing for bass that were using light line and tackle also until I started catching more fish on lighter line, especially on lakes that have very clear water. I have not got into the BFS yet, but using 6 pound fluoro every once in a while is at least a compromise ha ha.
But most of all my rods are mag heavy or extra heavy, so not sure when that’s gonna change. Anyway, thanks for sharing and tight lines always.

I started bass fishing only using 6# test as I fished clear local ponds, that to this day are hammered by anglers. It wasn't until I started fishing lakes that were not as pressured that I started using 8, 10, 12 pound test, and got into 'power' fishing.

But sometimes, light line is the key.

I use braid on my spinning reels. I change the leader size in different situations. Most of our lakes are high pressured.
I just got back from a vaca back east Ohio to Maine down to New York. So many lakes and rivers. There what they call ponds are bigger then anything we have.

People in other parts of the country call 12# line "light" or "finesse" for bass fishing. Crazy, I have caught tons of bass flippin' tules with 12# mainline or braid with 12# leader.

During the Covid years, I did a two week long road trip that took me from SoCal all the way down to New Orleans.

The amount of non pressured waters the moment you get into Texas is absurd. I brought 2 rods with me, and a few packs of Senkos and some small plastic swimbaits and all you would have to do is go down to the launch ramp and you'd be catching fish. No wonder people use 20 pound test out there, as the bass don't really seem to care.

I always laugh when people in the midwest, and the south talk about how pressured their lakes are. Our biggest lakes around here, I'll include DVL in there are still less than half of one of their arms in their lakes! Id love to see how they would like to fish our little puddles.

A lot of anglers who haven't been past their block don't understand the immensity of other lakes across the country. You think DVL is big? DVL is a cove in most of the lakes out there.

And I think that's why if you want to be successful monetarily and be a big name in the bass fishing world, you get the hell outta California. The grass is definitely greener and bigger on the other side.
