Barrett Report September 7
Got out a little later today, since the bite in the dark hasn't been that strong and sleeping in seems like a good thing. Air was 74F, Water was 78F. Light wind coming easterly. Played about in Wilson's creek and didn't have much topwater success. Managed to lose a pompadour lure though. That's two of them this season. Started throwing the little crankbait (Evergreen PC5) the Daiwa SC shad and the #5 Rapala. Those seemed to work the best for me today. Got a good mix on each, but I didn't get too many large fish and nothing over 3 pounds today. Did get a few nice bluegills though.
Zero success on chasing busters. I also couldn't get anything on 110 and 110+ jerkbaits. I think plastics would be the plan for larger fish and I think they might be a bit deep.
Cloud cover kept the lake tolerable, or so I thought, but when I got to my truck it was over 100F at 1200. Definitely need to stay hydrated, that heat could be a problem if you don't.

I need to see proof that you didn’t melt. Just kidding …nice job out there. Just the fact that you’re out there fishing in this type of weather proves you’re a bass fishing stud. I was once like you, but now if it’s gonna be hot, even if I go early, just knowing that I have to leave really early often makes me stay at home. Glad to see a fishing report from you and always look forward to them.
Tight lines always my friend:-)

Holy crap Vinnie is correct you are a stud. The thought of driving 90 minutes to lug my pontoon to the edge of the water and set it up has me already melting in this heat. Im sure glad you do it so i can read what im missing in the comfort of my lazyboy with a/c blowing across my prone body. You keep me motivated to get out there and catch fish. I here wednesday the heat wave will ease up and my car is already packed up to go........maybe. Good job out there my friend we will fish again together soon. Btw arent you throwing jigs with rage trailers in deeper water?

Yes, I freely admit that they work. Just not so much in my hands.EL_prowler_619 wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:43 am Did I hear plastics?...nice report bro it's that time to pull out the 9in 10in worms and lizards....next week should be fun and challenging

We only have a month left there and then it's seven months off. I'm going even if there is a risk of melting.VinnyBass wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2024 11:37 am I need to see proof that you didn’t melt. Re: Barrett Report September 7
I think a jig would do great. Same with plastics. I feel more comfortable with the hardbaits and that helps me catch fish with them. I honestly get lost fishing soft plastics and with jigs I seem to miss a lot of connections. I know I need more practice and it would be a good skill set, but I fall back into my old habits.1Fishdude wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2024 4:48 pm Holy crap Vinnie is correct you are a stud. I do think the heat is supposed to get better. It would be great to see you out there.

My best five in one day at Barrett (over 27lbs.) were all on the jig, with a paca chunk trailer. I haven’t been once this year but I’m planning on hitting it before it closes for the season. Can anyone please tell me if there are boats available without a reservation or do I need to go thru Ticketmaster?

Great job out there! I still haven’t been able to dial in the bluegills there this year but maybe it’s been because I’ve been jig crazy there this year. New Barrett video out tomorrow at 8am. I’ll post my report then. Cheers!

Hi, I think Jose mentioned they were opening at 0430 instead of 0400 in September. I have been getting there later, because I haven't seen a good bite in the dark for the last month, but at the first light there's usually something.Khachafishian wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2024 11:14 pm Super psyched about getting on the lake, Big D meet you on my last outting and then ended up fishing with your co-worker and his kids and they were slaying them nothing cooler than frothing groms. is the gate opening times the same or have they changed it for this last month
