Doves 2024
Opener in Ca Sept 1 . For those of you who hunt doves , Get Your Ammo Now if you don't have it . All the aspects of weather and hatch seem to be pointing to a good opener . Cheers , WR

There’s 11% tax increase July 1st. All guns and ammo in California.
Good luck, enjoy your hunt.

Re: Doves 2024
Even reloading steel for upland and waterfowl the cost of components , powder in particular isn't much better on price .If you load ITX , tungsten or bismuth , the cost exponential is hard to handle . The component end is not effected by tax and or shipping restrictions as of yet . Have a good hunt . WRSurferjohn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 6:06 am So lame on the tax increase as 17.99 a box isn't enough.

Governor Newsome took the deterrent of crime off the table in 2019 , canceled the death penalty that voters put in place.

Re: Doves 2024
If the tax , helps gun crime in the least I will be surprised . Our Gov is in a social class that doesn't seem to worry about crime . It will not , at least for now stop me from my outdoor pursuits . Shoot straight stay safe . WR

Re: Doves 2024
Slower than usual opener . Storm with rain , thunder and lightning moved thru the area Thursday night . Of all the birds taken only 1 mourning and 1 white wing that I saw , the others all Eurasian Collared . Had 18 birds for 29 rounds fired , not bad for an old fart with lots of floaters when looking into the sky . Hope all that went had a good time I know we did , WR

Re: Doves 2024
I’m glad you had a good ,and safe hunt.
Thank you for the update.
Each year is very different, I remember about 2013 there were flash floods that washed things out, it was raining so hard I had to open my truck door and look onto to pavement to see the yellow line, it was so bad you couldn’t see the road. Was worried about being stuck in the mud.
Take care

Re: Doves 2024
In addition to my update , The group had a very good contact with the Warden and ride along . 1/2 hour after shooting time , I was first to be checked and when asked to show him one of my shells he noticed they do not say steel on the hulls . Told him they were home rolls and all were loaded with steel as I have been doing since the requirement came in . I have my shells in canvas bank bags had 5 each bags of 25 in my bucket seat . He took 1 shell randomly out of each bag and proceeded to put them one at a time in an electronic device , crimp end first . I told him I was curious about the test device as I have not had the question posed since reloading steel he explained that not many load there own as far as nontoxic goes which explains why it took him a while to dig the tester out of the truck . The device had a lighted scale running up the face , lead at the bottom of the scale ,Tungsten , bismuth and steel marked with steel at the top . All mine pegged steel and the demo was over for me and the ride along . Cool contact and conversation , we all passed muster . WR

Bill.. Does the device use weight as a measurement?… Just curious..William Ritchie wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 5:11 pm In addition to my update , The group had a very good contact with the Warden and ride along . 1/2 hour after shooting time , I was first to be checked and when asked to show him one of my shells he noticed they do not say steel on the hulls . Re: Doves 2024
The warden didn't have a good explanation , as to the workings but said it tests density and specific gravity . Was just a 2x2x4 inch plastic box . Going to have to look it up on the web . Note , it did light up red on when he put the steel shells in , Light spectrometer ?

Re: Doves 2024
So here it is , Still no info on how it works but I believe this IS the device type the warden used . https://streamsystems.com/stream_websit ... otshot.htm ..ADD /EDIT , Looking further into it I read it works with a magnetic field . Steel being magnetic , bismuth being diamagnetic , tungsten and it blends somewhere in between . Lead having no effect in the magnetic field . .WR
