Great Day On Mission Bay!

Mission Bay Channel Fishing: Fishing New Baits!

Hey all!
I got a brief window to head out to Misson Bay for a 3 hour session. The last time I was out there I lost a massive halibut in the channel and was looking for some redemption. I also had an idea that I wanted to use some new lures and see how they worked compared to my normal stuff. I got out around 7 AM and I launched near the Bahia at the swim beach. After getting settled in my tube, I immediately tried some of the Berkley Paddleshad baits As well as a crank bait and a couple other things. I started with chartreuse on the small underspin head But quickly found that I was getting more bites on the white ones.

I ended up out there for three hours and Ended up getting 25 bass and 3 halibut. Two of the halibut were 18 inches and one was only around 10 inches. I had a lot of fun trying new baits, had a couple of delicious beverages and just an overall great time on the bay. Check out the video if you are interested in the details.

Cheers!

Cool. Had the place to yourself. The only way to fly.

You need a bigger net 😜

Seriously, great work as always and love seeing MB. I pass it by to fish the big bay and that’s probably my bad. I need to learn it living right up the hill.

I do have net issues. I’ve at least managed not to lose this one yet. I think I have to at least catch a fish that doesn’t fit into it before I replace it.

One thing that I like about tubing Mission Bay is that I don’t have to worry as much about giant fast moving boats not paying attention as long as I don’t head to the ski areas.

You are absolutely correct about calmer water. Some days on the big bay we can hardly stay on a spot with all the wakes…from jet skiers to small craft to tankers and navy ships. I definitely noticed the lack of that nuisance in your video 👍

The main issue that I face in Mission Bay is the occasional sailboat or canoe race where they tell me I cannot be in the area due to the race. But that is only 1 or 2 times per year.
