Re: rods for surf.
If you are doing light line type surf fishing, it is a bit longer than necessary... Most go 10-1/2' or less... I use a 9-1/2' or 10', myself... If you are doing a heavier bait-and-wait style, 12 " would be ok...

What are the specs on the rod?... My everyday (and favorite) rod is 9'6", light, moderate, 4-8# and 1/16- 3/8 0z... I hardly ever use any other rod in the surf... Unless I'm looking for sharks or bat rays (rarely)...Erioto wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 10:27 am yes i have a custom built 12 foot surf rod it is very light though i just was sure if this was optimal

I use a 7.5 ft. In the surf. But I also own a 12’ rod as well. It will blast it out there but most fish I chase are closer in. The 12’ will work ( hope it’s a 2 piece)
