6/13- Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

Just a pic of my third cat I have caught while fishing for bass at Lake Murray. This one gobbled up a brush hog. It took about 20 seconds
as I was thinking it was a nice bass, but soon realized it was probably a cat. This was the smallest of the 3 and weighed 6.75lbs.
The point east of the boat dock seems to be an area where they hang out, because I even caught a couple small ones over there last
year on spoons. Anyway...just sharing and tight lines to all of you real cat fishermen. :-)

Hey Vinny! Great catch. I've seen your other posts and wanted to ask what kind of set up do you have for your rig? I haven't gone cat fishing in awhile and it's only been at Poway where I always get skunked.

Any tips you can share for going to Lake Murray? Especially for a first timer? Would love to catch one... Or two!

Geez....I am not sure I can be of much help as I was fishing for bass when I caught those 3 cats in about a month's time. It was more of
a surprise as they hit lures geared for bass. I can tell you one thing that is common as I picked up a cat in the same area last year again
while fishing for bass. The thing is common or maybe just a coincidence was 3 out of those 4 were caught on the point on the way to
San Carlos arm. It is pretty flat in there so fish the whole area. There is no one area as you know that catfish are at, but I am just
showing you were I have caught some by accident so if you went out there with baits geared for catfish you may get lucky but again
in fishing there are no guarantees. Anyway...good luck to you/

Absolutely no guarantees! Thanks for even providing a map and pointing out a spot! I'm just trying to soak up any and all advice I can and I definitely know what works one day doesn't always work the next with fishing.

It sounds like you had quite an interesting fishing experience at Lake Murray! It’s always fun when you catch something unexpected, and it sounds like you’ve got a good spot figured out. Catching a catfish while targeting bass can definitely be a surprise, especially when you’re expecting a different kind of fight.

If you’re sharing this on a forum or with fellow anglers, they’ll likely appreciate your tips on the location and bait. Catfish can be quite challenging and rewarding to catch, and it’s great that you’ve had success with them in that area. Tight lines to you too, and best of luck with your future fishing adventures!

I posted a map(above)of where I caught two of those catfish and I also caught one and the same area last year. I thought I mentioned what I cut them on, but they were all caught on bass baits. If I was fishing for catfish, I would be using mackerel or liver or some type of catfish stink bait. Anyway…
Caught first cat on an under spin/keitech trailer
Second on a spoon
Third(The one posted above) on a brush hog
Anyway, good luck and tight lines to you Madziszan. :-)
