What is the best battery powered motor propulsion for a float tube? I see folks at Barrett with them, with the water high this year it really helps getting to the back areas before the sun rises, especially when the wind is in the wrong direction. I still intend to mostly use my fins but to cover long distances quickly, a float tube friendly setup would be nice. I don't need it for shorter distances as I am fit enough for that. Float tubing will still be a great low intensity exercise for me.
I know the simplest set up is a rechargeable drill with a long prop but that seems crude and limited. Much appreciate sharing any experience you have.

Check in with Dannicus
Ran into him a few weeks back at El Cap and saw his tube setup. He's running a sweet little Bixby kit. Very clean setup.

Re: Float Tube Motors?
I got stuck in the back of Pine Arm with 100+ temps and 20+ mph winds and it took me nearly 4 hours to kick back. Along the way I figured that there’s got to be a better way. This is what I came up with.

Re: Float Tube Motors?
For a float tube, the best battery-powered propulsion option would be a small, lightweight trolling motor designed for kayaks or inflatable boats. These motors are efficient, compact, and provide the power you need to reach distant spots quickly. Look for a model with adjustable speed settings, such as the Newport Vessels NV-Series or the Minn Kota Endura, which are both popular among float tubers. Make sure to choose a model with a lower thrust (around 30-40 lbs) to keep the weight manageable and conserve battery life.
Pair the trolling motor with a lightweight lithium-ion battery, which is significantly lighter and longer-lasting than traditional lead-acid batteries. Consider a setup with a quick-release mount or clamp, making it easy to attach and remove the motor as needed. This way, you can still enjoy using your fins for shorter distances while having the option to motor across larger areas.
