Halibut on the fly… in the surf
Hit up blacks this morning throwing out the fly in the surf… not great conditions with very choppy surf at close tidal intervals so there was a lot of sand messing up the clarity of the water. It was also an outgoing tide which is not my favorite but it was the only time and date I could go this week. Caught a smallish corbina first ( first one of the season for me) and then lost a larger one I hooked in the chaotic surf which was a major bummer… But not long after I hooked into something large that I thought was another guitar fish but as it got closer I was stoked to see a 26 inch halibut! I missed another few bites and hooked a yellow fin croaker which was the last fish I caught. Pretty fun day at the beach ! I was fishing with red crabby patty flies (tied at a brewery earlier in the week at a fly tying meetup) which are suppose to only catch perch but evidently catch everything.

Re: Halibut on the fly… in the surf
Congrats! What a great mixed bag. Red krabbypatty is my go-to surf fly.
